Please read the information below carefully for your dress code, responsibilities, and other important details. After reviewing, send us an email to confirm you’ve received this information and to ask any questions.

Role Overview
Your duties take place before and during the shows and dress rehearsal.

Check-In
When you arrive, please check in with Noelle, our backstage coordinator. You will receive your badge and any final instructions there.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise dancers in the dressing room under Merry and Noelle who will be checking in throughout the show. You will have at least one parent volunteer to assist you. You will have more than one depending on how many dancers are in your dressing room.

  • Introduce yourself and learn students’ names

  • Keep students calm, quiet, and engaged while waiting to perform

  • Coordinate when dancers need to be ready and line them up so that Julia or Grace can bring them to the stage on time to dance. We would ideally like the dancers lines up 4 dances before their dance. You will have a schedule will all the details provided to you.

  • Ensure that hair, makeup, and costumes stay performance-ready

  • Some dressing rooms have attached bathrooms; others will have a volunteer escort students if needed

  • Encourage dancers to drink water

  • Ensure snacks are put away and students are ready well before their stage call

  • If students are in multiple dances, help them as needed to adjust or fix up hair, make-up, pin in head piece, etc.

  • Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive environment at all times

Backstage Information

  • Arise will provide water, snacks, colouring pages, and books for younger students

  • Many students will already arrive in costume and will not require changing

  • Dancers will be brought to and from the stage by Grace and Julia

  • Ensure bathroom needs are addressed early, before performance time

Dress Code
Wear neat, comfortable clothing suitable for sitting and moving around while working with children.

Final Note
Please remain attentive, calm, and supportive while helping students backstage. They will likely be a mix of excited and nervous, and so your comforting, encouragement, and positivity will go a long way to helping them have the best experience!

Let us know if you have any questions. We appreciate your help and look forward to having you on the team!
