Missing Child Protocol
It is very unlikely to have a child go missing at Arise as teachers should regularly keep track of the students in their class. If a child goes to the washroom, the desk staff should watch to be sure the child does not leave the building and the teacher should allow a reasonable amount of time to pass and then send another child to check on the child that initially left; however, if a child goes missing take the following steps:
Remain calm to avoid frightening the other students.
Stop the class and ask the other students if they have any information about the missing student, (e.g. did they mention any plans to leave early, etc.)
Ask Admin staff to search for the student on the premises including the outside perimeter of the building, parking lots, and nearby sidewalks. Call the student’s name while searching. If other adults are around the outside of the building, ask them if they have seen a child fitting the description.
If you find the child outside, bring them back to the studio. Once the child is found, talk to the child and remind them to stay until class is over and they are dismissed by the teacher. Parents should be notified that the child left the building without permission. Complete a Missing Child Report to document the details of what happened.
If the child is not found, contact the Arise Directors, the child’s parents, and the police. Follow all instructions from the police.
If, at any point in this process, you see a person that looks suspicious, note their appearance (facial features, facial hair, hair colour, rough height and weight, clothing, noticeable scars, etc.) and note the reason they seem suspicious.
Complete a Missing Child Report.
