Recital Dances/Choreography Information

Music:

  • Music must be submitted by the end of January (earlier is great).

  • Naomi and Jen will listen to your selections to ensure that no one is using the same music, that it hasn’t been used in a recent recital or performance, that it’s age and style-appropriate, etc. They will notify you if and when your song has been approved. Please do not share music selections with your students until they have been approved.

  • All music with words must be Christian.

  • Non-Christian music without words such as classical pieces, instrumental music, and movie soundtracks are acceptable, as long as they come from a positive source, so that, if a parent or student looked up the artist or album, it would be appropriate.

  • You are in charge of listening to and deciding where to cut your recital music to make it the correct length for recital. You must submit music cuts by the end of January, which is why it’s good to get your music approved before that point. Arise will buy the track and pay to have it professionally cut.

Costuming:

  • All teachers pick their own costumes.

  • Arise owns many costume options, so start by checking our costume database to see if something would work for your class.

  • If you cannot find something in the costume database, find what you like online. Be sure to pay attention to the availability (if it’s selling out, but you have a class of 15, that’s no good), sizing (check that it comes in the correct sizes for the age of your class), material (stretchy and movable), etc.

  • Choose costumes from somewhere with easy returns and refunds.

  • Costumes must be modest and appropriate. Your costume should be supportive, should not show any cleavage, and should not show any skin on the midriff. If it is a skirt/dress, it must include an underskirt, or leggings/shorts.

  • Costumes should be coordinated with your class’s dress code so they can wear their class leotard with it or under it.

  • Send Naomi and Jen your costume selections and wait for approval.

  • We will have a “measuring week” where you will need to measure and record the measurements of everyone in your class. The desk staff will help with this.

  • Once the costume has been approved and the class has been measured, Naomi will place the order.

Photos Days, Dress Rehearsal, and Recitals

  • All teachers are expected to be at their classes’ photo days. Typically, we try to schedule photos during your regular teaching hours, but if your classes’ photos take place outside your regular teaching hours, you can invoice Arise at your teaching rate for the photo days.

  • All teachers are expected to work at the dress rehearsal and recital days from start to finish. Arise will assign each teacher a job. Jobs may include working backstage looking after dancers, taking dancers to and from the stage, helping with hair and makeup, or front-of-house, etc. Regardless of your regular teaching rate, all teachers invoice Arise at $20/hour for the time they are working at the recitals and dress rehearsals.
